The name Meota was derived from the Cree phrase Meotate or Mo-Was-In-Ota, meaning "good place to camp" or "it is good here."
Meota has a population of 307 as of the 2011 Census.
Located 43 kms northwest of North Battleford on Highway 26, the community of Meota is situated along the south shores of Jackfish Lake. Meota is situated in the midst of a thriving Agricultural economy, oilfield development and a bustling residential and recreational community.
A grocery store, Innovation Credit Union, Hotel Steak Pit and Café, SGI, Lakeland Library, Meota Hair Center and Laundromat, a Fitness Centre are just some of the services available.
The Village is home to the Battlefords Sailing Club, Meota Regional Park, and Meota & District Lakeside Golf Course. The Meota Regional Park is located within the Village limits which has 14 full service campsites, 78 electrical sites and 9 non-electrical sites. It has swimming area on the Jackfish Lake, a cook house and fish filleting facility. The Meota Regional Park is a great place to meet family and friends.
The Meota and District Lakeside Golf Course is a nine hole, grass green community golf course with a driving range. The course features a club house as well as power cart, pull cart and club rentals. The Golf Course is located on the southeast edge of the Village of Meota and is the pride of community members who worked hard to develop the facility.
